ABOUT
THE MAKER:
This guitar was built in
March, 1983 in the TIME Guitar shop in Burlington, VT. The Serial Number is 167. Model is XS-12,
This is what we know
about TIME Guitars from public sources:
“Time Guitars was started by Alan Stack in
1973. The Company was located in several Vermont locations during its
existence. Time produced hundreds of incredible handmade guitars from the 1970's thru the
1980's. Alan worked for a company called
Mellisa Guitars in the 60's where he learned his craft. The Mellisa guitars had
a distinctive lower bout that inspired the slanty curves on the later Time
Caster. Alan built the first Time Guitar in Florida. In 1970-72, Alan moved to
Vermont and setup a shop in Waltham. Alan always wanted his guitars to stand
out. He wanted you to either love them or hate them right away. Around this
period Paul Languedoc was hired. Later the Barn was torched by an arsonist and
hundreds of guitars were lost forcing Time to close forever.”
ABOUT
THE INSTRUMENT:
This is what we know about this fine guitar:
The BODY is
made of very high grade MAHOGANY and painted in an unbelievable “orange fade burst”
finish with the most unusual binding we have ever seen. It is black white checkered pattern that
makes this guitar a WORK OF ART.
The SET NECK
has a 12” curve that is thicker than a “Strat” and smooth to play.
The
FRETBOARD is BEAUTIFUL EBONY that is
RARE and smooth.
The INLAYS
are diamond shaped and extremely well done.
This was a specialty of Paul Languedoc and his artistry shows here.
The FRETS
are “JUMBO” size and are very well
dressed.
The BRIDGE is a TOM SCHALLER.
The
BRIDGE PICKUP is a DUNCAN JEFF BECK.
The NECK
PICKUP is a Mighty Mite HUMBUCKER.
The TUNERS
are M-6 MINI.
There are 4
three way selector SWITCHES that are wired
in a
“complex” manner which allows for coil tapping,
series/parallel
, coil cut switching (seems to have been
modeled
after GARCIA’s IRWIN guitars). THIS
IS A VERY
RARE
WIRING SET UP providing amazing sounds.
This is an AMAZING and
RARE guitar. We have graded it as being
in GOOD CONDITION. Look at the photos
and you will see the usual" player scratches, dings, bangs, and nicks-look
for nick on heel.” The most noticeable blemish on the guitar is on the horn of
the rear top bout “wing”. The paint has
been knocked off and there is a dent.
You can see it in the photos. The paint is very faded.
A
GREAT PLAYER WITH TRADITIONAL THICK EXPLORER TONES. VERY WELL BALANCED. HANGS GREAT.
The case is original and
very large.
